So nauseous and I have to go to class 😭
Lillian Weber, a 99-year-old good Samaritan from Iowa, has spent the last few years sewing a dress a day for the Little Dresses For Africa charity, a Christian organization that distributes dresses to children in need in Africa and elsewhere.
Weber’s goal is to make 1,000 dresses by the time she turns 100 on May 6th. So far, she’s made more than 840. Though she says she could make two a day, she only makes one – but each single dress she makes per day is personalized with careful stitchwork. She hopes that each little girl who receives her dress can take pride in her new garment.
Anonymous said: Do you have any fundraiser ideas for a high school? Our prom will be lame if we don't raise more money. So far we have thought about selling chocolate bars, having a chick-fil-a night, a Menchies night and senior spirit wear. Any more suggestions?
What’s Menchies?! I did a lot of this, though! Here’s some of the stuff my HS did:
- School volleyball/dodgeball/sport tournament
- School dances
- Movie nights
- Data match (google it!)
- Laser tag
- Spaghetti nights
- Silent Auctions
- Regular Auctions
- $1 to wear a hat in school/use cell phone/drink coffee in the halls for a day
- Ask local businesses for x% of their proceeds that day to go to your class
- Candy grams
- Valentine’s day flowers
- Yankee candle
- Pampered chef
There’s this one really funny one that a neighboring school of mine does called Senior slave day, where an underclassmen buys a senior and has them do/dress/act however the underclassment decides all day for like $15 bucks a senior.. and then there’s the Sexy Legs contest.. have your male teachers line up and take singular photos of just their legs in gym shorts and have kids pay to guess who’s legs they are (& give prizes for right guesses.. such as food, another guess, free school tees/items, homework passes, etc!)
Hope I helped!!
